Markdale One Step Closer To A New School

Great news for Markdale!  The Bluewater District School Board is moving ahead with plans to build a new K-8 school to replace Beavercrest Community School now that an "Approval to Proceed" has been granted by the Ministry of Education.   A total of $8.5 million in funding has been approved to build a new school for roughly 236 students in grades Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8 and to create 2 child care spaces and 2 EarlyON spaces, all to be housed at the same site.  Next steps in the process include acquiring additional property adjacent to the existing school grounds so…

Grey Bruce Owen Sound Home Sales Up Year-Over-Year In December 2019   Residential sales activity in the geographical area covered by the REALTORS® Association of Grey Bruce Owen Sound totaled 129 units in December 2019.  This was up 4.9% (six sales) from December 2018.  On an annual basis, home sales totalled 2,791 units over the course of 2019, down a slight 0.8% from the same period in 2018. The average price of homes sold in December 2019 was $395,126, jumping 15.5% from December 2018.  The more comprehensive annual average price for 2019 was $392,508, up 9.6% from all of 2018.…

2020 Real Estate Forecast

  According to the 2019 Royal LePage House Price Survey and Market Forecast, the price of a home in Canada increased 2.2% year over year to $648,544 in the 4th quarter of 2019 as buyers continued to return to the real estate market and adapt to the government's mortgage stress test.  The price of a home in Canada is expected to increase 3.2% year over year in 2020 to $6269,800.  This forecast is dependent on consistent economic conditions, assuming no new governmental housing policy changes and includes regional aggregate and housing type forecasts.   Read the Q4 2019 Royal LePage…

Markdale Hospital Update

Here's some news Grey Highlands residents have been waiting to hear... Grey Bruce Health Services has submitted an application to Grey Highlands for a building permit to construct the long-awaited new Markdale hospital!   GBHS is also working through the site plan process for the proposed $63-million facility and while the approval process could take some time, word is officials are cautiously optimistic that shovels could be in the ground by late 2020.  This is great news for the community as we've been waiting a long time to see some progress with the new hospital in Markdale.  The Provincial government…
