Great news for Markdale! The Bluewater District School Board is moving ahead with plans to build a new K-8 school to replace Beavercrest Community School now that an “Approval to Proceed” has been granted by the Ministry of Education.
A total of $8.5 million in funding has been approved to build a new school for roughly 236 students in grades Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8 and to create 2 child care spaces and 2 EarlyON spaces, all to be housed at the same site. Next steps in the process include acquiring additional property adjacent to the existing school grounds so that a construction zone can be created to ensures the ongoing safety of the school’s students and staff during the building process and establishing a timeline for the project. It is anticipated that groundbreaking could take place as early as later this year.
