Enjoying outdoor rink season in Grey County

Flesherton Outdoor Rink

Address: Beside Flesherton Arena, 103 Highway 10, Flesherton

Open as weather permits from 9:00am – 11:00pm 

Flesherton’s outdoor rink is located on the Ball Diamond behind the Flesherton Arena which can be accessed via Highland Drive. Big thanks to the Flesherton Beautification and Improvement Committee for instituting this ice surface. When you’re ready for a hot drink or tasty snack, stop in at The Bakery of Flesherton or Highland Grounds Cafe, both located along Highway 10.

Markdale Outdoor Rink

Address: King Edward Park, 75 Walker St, Markdale

Open daily with lights until 10:30pm. Closed only if required by weather conditions

The Markdale outdoor rink is a volunteer-driven initiative that has quickly become a popular spot during cold weather. It is always open with lights that turn off at roughly 10:30pm each evening. Check their facebook page for updates. The rink is flooded regularly, usually first thing in the morning. If the ice surface appears slushy due to a recent flood or fluctuating temperatures, please allow it harden before you skate. Thank you to the Markdale Recreation Committee and their volunteers for the time and effort required to make this rink available to the community.

Priceville Outdoor Rink

Address: Stothart Hall, 104 Kinross Street, Priceville

Open daily as weather permits with lights until 11:00pm

The tiny village of Priceville boasts a great outdoor rink of it’s own thanks to a committed group of volunteers. The baseball diamond and the basketball court at Stothart Hall are flooded to create the ice surface and lighting is provided by the ball diamond lights. As the rink is maintained by volunteers and may not be clear after a heavy snowfall, and ice may not be ideal following inclement weather. Egremont Optimist Club Outdoor Rink

Address: 392137 Grey County Road 109, Holstein

Open daily as weather permits

This is another volunteer-driven rink, located behind the Egremont Optimist Club – thank you to the Optimists! The ice does not receive daily attention so shovels are provided for clearing snow as necessary. Please respect rink rules: all skaters must be kind and courteous, respect others, and wear proper protective equipment. When you’ve worked up an appetite, visit the Holstein General Store for a treat. their daily soup specials or some fresh local baked goods.

Hanover Outdoor Rink

Address: Kinsmen Ball Park, 310 17th Avenue, Hanover

Open daily as weather permits 8:30am – 8:30pm

Hanover’s outdoor rink is maintained by yet another team of wonderful volunteers and is located next to the pavilion at the Kinsmen Ball Park. This rink follows the HOSE rule: HOCKEY on ODD calendar days, and SKATING on EVEN calendar days. Hanover has lots of caffes and restaurants where skaters can warm up and fuel up. Follow The Town of Hanover’s Facebook page for updates on the schedule and status of the rink.

Harrison Park Good Cheer Rink

Address: Harrison Park, 75 2nd Avenue East, Owen Sound

Open from sunrise to 10:00pm daily

The Good Cheer Outdoor Rink in Harrison Park is a perennial favourite with Grey County families. Hockey and recreational skating are scheduled on alternating days according to the H.O.S.E. rule: HOCKEY on ODD calendar days, and SKATING on EVEN calendar days. Visit the Harrison Park Inn when you need to warm up with a hot chocolate or coffee or to enjoy something from the take-out counter. Please note: the City requires that appropriate protective equipment is worn when using the outdoor rink. Children under the age of 12 must be supervised by an adult.

Woodview Mountaintop Skating at Blue Mountain

Address: 201 Scenic Caves Road, Unit AW2, The Blue Mountains

Open Monday – Friday 12noon – 8pm and Weekends & Holidays 10am – 8pm

Visit this 1.1km loop at the top of Blue Mountain to skate along the top of the Niagara Escarpment while enjoying great views of Georgian Bay or of the open night sky. Admission fees get you 2 hours of access to the skating loop. Ice skate rentals are available and all skill levels are welcome. When you need to warm up, the cafes, shops and restaurants of the Village are just at the bottom of the ski hills. Not cold? Grab a bite or a drink at the Off-Piste Apres Garden located just outside the Woodview. Weather does impact the ice so be sure to check the website for the status before heading out.
