The Dam GastroPub and Whiskey Bar
53 Bruce Street South, Thornbury phone: 519-599-2110
Scottish and Canadian Pub Fare, Vegetarian friendly, gluten free options
“Being Scottish, I’m always skeptical about “themed” pubs as it usually leads to disappointment. We stopped in to the Dam Pub and were so pleasantly surprised. Beautiful location, the wait staff was fantastic and the owner was happy to answer questions and try to set up a return visit with a larger group. The building has been there since the late 1800’s so it is not large inside (much more patio seating) but the coziness and ambiance appealed to me. Scotch Eggs and Shepherds Pie were great, they have a fried haggis dish that I will return to try. They also have a total of 855 Whiskey’s available. ***** ” – emtanner

“Was not disappointed! Stopped in on a recommendation and will be returning for sure. Food was fantastic. Sat out on the patio and had alternating smells of the delicious food being prepared in the kitchen and then fresh baked bread from the bakery across the street. ***** ” – pyrosomnia
Andrew’s Roots

International Cuisine, Vegetarian friendly, gluten free options
“We visited on a Saturday night, pretty busy, had to make reservations. After completing out dinner, I now know why.
Our waitress, Elanna was awesome. She was quick to greet us at the door with a welcoming smile and wonderful attitude. We ordered a couple of drinks, one of wich was a special. The Apple Jack is a great recommendation. We started with the Mussles and Soup of the day. The soup was great but the Mussles were to die for. For main entre we ordered the Surf and Turf and Full Rack of Ribs. The meat dishes were tender and moist.
The atmosphere was close and intimate, however while busy, it can get a bit loud. The space is tastefully decorated and easy on the eyes. Overall, fantastic food, great service and great space. Downside, a bit pricey. ***** ” – John C

“When driving up to this Diner, you sort of wonder “are you kidding me”
but never judge a diner by the metal and wood shed it is in….my friend and I had bruschetta which was a great starter…I loved my prime rib and my friend throughly enjoyed her chicken and cheese….the side of vegetables were amazing and my Yorkshire was huge and delicious! We were so stuffed we could hardly move!!!! We weren’t too adventurous with our choices but if you are braver your “game” choices are unlimited….be brave…or not…just go!!! ***** ” – mcardij

“We stopped off at Kettles on the way to Owen Sound. The parking lot was full, always a good sign we thought, inside was a short line up that went quickly. We were seated and ordered within 10 mins, great service considering how busy it was. The decor is rustic and pleasant. Five to ten minutes tops, our food was served, my husband has the carrot and ginger soup with a sauerkraut sandwich and I had the best turkey sandwich I have ever had in a restaurant, real large chunks of turkey not slices of processed turkey like so many places serve up. Hubby had bread and butter pudding with vanilla sauce (Custard), I passed on the desert I was so full from the sandwich. Top this off with two teas and we were done. Although we didn’t have a mains as such, it was an ample size, the mains we saw being served to others….you better come ravenous because the servings were huge and the price….excellent value for what you got. Example my turkey sandwich was just $4.49. We will definitely drop into Kettles on our next trip up to Owen Sound. ***** ” – iamtullahlulla

Pebbles Family Restaurant
313010 Highway 6, Varney phone: 519-369-9982
Canadian and American fare, Vegetarian friendly
“Home cooking at its best. This is basic home cooking at it’s best. The buffet is not as extensive as some, but there is more than enough choice. Don’t pass up the grilled pork chops at the side. Service is very friendly and fast. If it is your birthday (and you can prove it) you can eat free! Line ups can be long. Business is so good it can afford to be closed on what must be one of the busiest days for any restaurant -Sundays! Check out the fudge and butter tarts at the cash! Great gospel music in the background too. ***** ” – ruthgary2017

“Everyone at our table enjoyed their meal. I added chicken to the vegetable pasta. Best bruschetta bread ever. Probably a good idea to reserve to avoid disappointment. Small atmosphere made it fun for us and we ended up chatting with the table next to us. One of the owners stopped by the table. Nice night out for us on our stay in town. ***** ” – sudstraveller

“We went for lunch and we were not disappointed. We sat out on the patio which some may find noisy as the water is rushing over the dam. The inside is a pleasant surprise . We ordered a bottle of red wine, burgers and the lunch special grilled cheese and bacon. Everything was delicious. Our server Jess was very attentive and remembered all our names. ***** ” – Mills75
