There’s no doubt about it, Covid-19 is having an impact on the 2020 Christmas season. Many families in larger centres and small towns are planning for smaller-scaled holiday celebrations this year, both due to economic constraints and in an effort to adhere to safety measures and restrictions as outlined by our government. One of the bright spots to have emerged from these trying times is a renewed emphasis on the idea of shopping at local neighbourhood stores out of a need to stay close to home and an honest desire to help local small businesses stay afloat as they struggle through the pandemic. Grey County’s Economic Development team recently distributed “Shop Local“, a sort of guide book that highlights all of the wonderful small businesses in the area that are open for business and more than willing to help you cross each and every item off of your Christmas shopping list, this year and every year.
For those of you who aren’t lucky enough to live here, what follows is an abridged version of that mailer. I encourage you to use it to help you locate everything you need to celebrate this holiday season, from a delicious family dinner to the perfect gift for your spouse and everything in between. Visiting and shopping in our various small towns and communities helps to support the local economy, keeps unique stores, boutiques and restaurants in our store fronts and helps give back to the villages, hamlets and towns we love. So stop by one of the art galleries, sip on a delicious hot beverage made while you wait, pick up a gift or two and enjoy a mouth-watering take-out meal once you return home at the end of a successful shopping trip!
